School Uniform
School Uniform Statement
At St Michael’s School we believe a school uniform is important for the following reasons:
- It promotes a strong, cohesive school identity
- It fosters a feeling of pride
- It supports high standards and high expectations in all areas of school life
- It promotes harmony and equality between different groups represented in the school
- It reduces fashion competition between children
- It identifies St Michael’s to the wider community
All children are expected to wear the school uniform. Please see below for detailed lists. Due to Government Guidance, pupils are no longer required to have a logo on their uniform to make it more affordable.

What will we do if children don’t wear the school uniform?
We very much hope that everyone will uphold the uniform code: this is part and parcel of joining a school. Technically, non-wearing of uniform is a disciplinary offence. We will work with parents to overcome any barriers (financial or otherwise) that might exist.
- 100% School uniform subsidies are available for parents eligible for Free School Meals on income grounds (ask in the office):
- 50% subsidy available for families not eligible for for income-related support
- We have a number of unclaimed/donated school cardigans and sweatshirts available for a small donation.
Please consider donating any good quality uniform your child has outgrown. This is a great way of re-using and avoiding waste.
Where any persistent refusal to wear uniform continues, children will be required to change into clothes provided by the school. We very much hope parents wouldn’t put their child in this position.
Reminders about School Uniform
Please note that leggings should NOT be worn either on their own (instead of trousers) or under skirts (instead of tights). The only time when leggings are allowed is in cold weather outside in place of a tracksuit.
Please note that PE kits, including tracksuits, MUST conform to the school's uniform code.
Jewellery, hairbands, other additions
No jewellery should be worn to school, with the exception of: wristwatches; stud earrings. This is to ensure the safety of all children. Hairbands should be small and practical: please do not send your child in with large bows or elaborate hairbands.
Please note that children must either remove all earrings before PE, or tape them over. Please can children bring in their own tape for this – we are spending a lot of time sorting this out for children. Thank you!
