Let's Celebrate July 2016
Our focus for this theme week will be the Performing Arts and our theme is ‘Celebrating Diversity in Modern Britain’
Purpose
To provide opportunities to:
- Foster a sense of community, with common, inclusive values.
- Participate in a variety of creative and cultural experiences.
- Listen to and perform a range of music by British composers.
We will begin the week by each year group working on a collaborative art project. The focus will be on celebrating our school community and promoting the importance of respecting and embracing diversity.
Throughout the week, each year group will focus on a particular aspect of music. In previous arts weeks children have listened to, evaluated, performed and responded to music from around the world. This week we will be immersing ourselves in British music. Children will respond to their music foci through composing, dance & art.

Flashmob
Throughout this term all children have been practising Anna Meredith's body percussion piece 'Connect It'. Anna Meredith is a young Scottish composer who writes electronic and acoustic music. She likes to work with orchestras, bands and choreographers to create music that uses clapping, stamping, shouting and beatboxing instead of instruments. She has performed at music festivals and her music has been played on BBC Radio 1. She's even performed one of her pieces as a flashmob on the M6 motorway! The children have really enjoyed learning this piece and we are going to perform on own flashmob as a whole school on the playground on Friday. For more information visit: Connect It
